FOSTER PROGRAM
(Genesis 1-28). All animals are God's animals (Psalm 50:10) and we are answerable to God for our treatment, care and protection of them.
GREETINGS, POTENTIAL FOSTERS!
We are currently accepting applications for Foster Homes. We simply can not do the rescue work without your support whether through fostering, purchasing from our fundraisers, donations or sending things on our wish list! Please consider helping, it is a great feeling!
HOW DOES THE APPLICATION PROCESS WORK?
The process begins by completing the Foster application. We will review it, call you for a brief phone interview and then if we feel you will be happy with us we schedule a home visit.
HOW WILL I KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING AT HELP A HOUND?
We have set up a Yahoo group that you will be invited to join. In this group you will learn of the happenings, transports, dog issues etc. You can discuss dog issues with other Fosters to gain insight into how they have handled a certain situation, as well as offer your insight to them.
We will post a section here on the site that will include "Self Help" instructions and suggestions for many concerns, problems or questions you may have regarding one of your Foster dogs.
We do things a little different than some, not to say better, just different. Communication with our Fosters is a large part of our philosophy.
Additionally, we will hold monthly meetings, should you wish to attend, (it is not mandatory) that will include all persons involved in Help A Hound, Inc. to define goals and discuss the progress in other areas of our rescue, and define and address areas that may be lacking or are of concern. Feel free to e-mail concerns at any time.
WHAT IS IMPORTANT FOR ME TO KNOW ABOUT MY FOSTER AND FOSTERING?
A list of dogs that are scheduled to come in to the rescue for Foster will be e-mailed out to all Fosters with descriptions of what we know about the dog and the date of the dogs arrival. Upon arrival the dogs will first be isolated at Help A Hound, Inc. for a 24 hour period. The dogs will be temperament tested, people, dog, and cat tested. Should there be an unforeseen problem with the dog you have chosen to Foster, you will be notified. Therefore, you can feel confident that you are getting a dog with an accurate description of behavior and health status.
Your Foster will arrive completely spayed/neutered, wormed, current on shots, heartworm negative with Heartworm preventive, disease and parasite free.
We will put someone in charge of coupon cutting for dog food. These will be mailed to you in order to assist in the feeding of the Foster Dogs. Additionally, we are in the process of a program to have food supplied to the Foster Homes for the dogs or a stipend. However; we are not sure that it will come to fruition. We are therefore asking that the food for the dogs be a part of your contribution to the dogs. We will make every effort to locate a program/programs that can assist us with the food. We just cannot promise it will happen. Until then though, we will distribute the coupons by e-mail.
All Vetting will be paid for by Help A Hound, Inc.
HOW LONG WILL I HAVE MY FOSTER?
There is no way to say exactly, we will make every effort to move your Foster into an appropriate loving home as soon as possible. It may be as short as one week or as long as who knows. we ask that before you sign up you are willing to be in it for the long haul just in case.
